Welcome to The Sewing Institute
The Sewing Institute has just relocated to a purpose designed studio at Lytham YMCA, the base for our growing range of creative classes, lead by our trio of qualified teachers and sewing & craft enthusiasts. Alongside our core classes of sewing, crochet & creative textiles we have regular visiting specialist tutors too! Our team are passionate about creating a learning environment and hub for socialising & community. Classes are now easily accessible by bus. Car parking is on site and all facilities are fully accessible.
The fabric boutique offers a select range of hand picked fabrics, which prides itself on quality over quantity! There's a fast turn over of fabric inline with fashion & interior trends each season. This include a core line of high quality 100% cottons as well as linen, jerseys, cord, denim, lawn & viscose, allowing both dressmakers & crafters ample choice for their projects! The product range is driven by customer feedback & request and are inline with sewing workshops.
We endeavour process & post orders within 24 hours. Parcels are sent Royal Mail 2nd Class. Postage can take 3-5 working days.
Click & collect orders will be available once you have received your pickup notification whenever a class is in progress- please check the monthly workshop schedule for up to date for times/dates.

We had a lovely, relaxed morning painting our mugs and we were delighted with how they’ve turned out (allowing for our dubious artistic ability!), the glazing is fantastic and the colours are just as we expected from Lucy’s expert help on the day.

We travelled 2 hours to get there for the 'Intro to Sewing Machine Workshop' but it was definitely worth the journey. Katy was super helpful and endlessly patient. Lovely, calm vibe in the room and very well equipped. Highly recommended.
I have bought this material with a blouse pattern in mind to do. The quality is great with a beautiful pattern on it.

This is my 2nd sewing class at this location and I think it’s wonderful. Highly recommended. The teachers are lovely whilst giving you the time and patience you need. The class was held on the same night as a social, which we weren’t a part of but everyone was welcoming and a very wholesome environment.
I love my tote bag! It walks into the room before I do…so everyone knows I made it 😂

Fantastic - just what I needed for my craft project :)
This is such a lovely fabric to work with. I made the Tamsyn Top from Simply Sewing and it was so easy to handle and hangs beautifully.
It was lovely to go and crochet with others at the SI. It was my first time since doing the crochet beginners course.
Sometimes I thought people were talking in a foreign language when explaining crochet stitches but it was a lovely friendly group. Looking forward to next time 🧶
